Something is going on with men and spas . A few days ago I was in the reception area of Spa Bellagio, one of the best spas in Las Vegas , and ten men (and just one woman) were crowded around the desk, scheduling massages, facials, and pedicures. About 30 minutes off the Strip, at The Ritz-Carlton at Lake Las Vegas, half the men pick spa over golf when they get their choice in a group package. This surprises even me! But I think there are three reasons more men are taking to the spa. First, spas have figured out how to create a calming environment that is beautiful and gender-nuetral. Second, they've created spa menus with services targeted to men. And third, men have tried massage or a facial or a pedicure -- often when they're on holiday at a resort spa , encouraged by their partner or friend. Once they've tried it once, most want to go back. I mean, what's not to like?

Best romantic short massages?
Ah, the short, romantic massage -- a great way to take flirting up to the next level, a wonderful way to introduce a bit of intimacy into a relationship, and a fantastic source of pleasure to someone with whom you're already involved. These are five of my favorites -- giving OR getting:
1. Base of the skull to top of the shoulders -- accessible in public, easy to do, and EVERYBODY likes having their neck rubbed. Stand behind your partner, put a hand on either side of their neck, and make circular motions with your thumbs on the large muscles/tendons on either side of the spine. Follow the stress down to the tops of the shoulders. Be careful not to pull the little hairs at the base of the skull! As an option, you can drive your fingers forward into their hair behind the ears and make light scrubbing motions on their scalp, depending on hairstyle.
2. Between the shoulderblades and the spine. A very common place for people to be tense. Usually (though not always) worse on the dominant side -- that is, right-handers are usually stiffer on the right, lefties on the left. Locate the shoulder blade and the bumps on the backbone, then massage between them. This usually requires a little more pressure, as it's a fairly major muscle group. If you're really close (or would like to be!) with your partner, you can slip your left hand across the top of their chest to give you some leverage -- low enough not to make it a chokehold, high enough that, if you're massaging a female, it's not an obvious attempt to become TOO intimate.
3. Eyebrows and temples. VERY romantic... VERY sensual... use a light touch and stroke gently in small, slow circles. You can add some cheekbone massage, and finish with strokes from under the jaw up toward the ears. If humans could purr... this would have them shaking the windows.
4. Hands. Also very romantic -- take one of your partner's hands in both of yours, hold it palm up, and massage the center of their palm firmly with your thumbs. Pull gently on each finger in turn: hold their index finger with your thumb and first two fingers, then twist it lightly as you pull down toward the tip. Repeat for the other fingers and thumb.
5. Feet. The most intimate of these short massages, because your partner has to remove clothing -- even if it's just shoes. Start facing opposite your partner, with his or her sole facing you; hold their foot in both your hands and massage the sole with your thumbs. Get the space under the toes; pull on the toes lightly (as for the fingers in #4), but additionally, lightly run your index finger BETWEEN the toes before beginning (if your partner is barefoot; if he/she is in socks, removing them can be VERY sensual -- especially if you're giving a foot massage to a woman in pantyhose. :-) Continue massaging the ankles and calves; any higher and you change the focus from "romantic short massage" to "sensual massage leading to foreplay" -- which can be wonderful, but is an entirely different thing.
